I'm only paying $20/month right now for my Slice, and you really can't compare shared hosting to a VPS. The feature set and intended audience are entirely different. Looks like your VPS accounts start at $50. Plus, the one time I did need to use a MediaTemple account (it was for a client, they already had an account with you), I found that it didn't really offer the flexibility we needed at the time. I don't exactly recall the problems we ran into, but I seem to remember that the interface for setting up cron jobs didn't really offer the fine-grained control we were looking for, and we had difficulties getting to the php error logs. All that said, I'm comfortable enough with the command line that the extra flexibility I get from using a VPS is valuable to me, so I don't think I'll be switching from Slicehost anytime soon. @ (mt):
